4 KING EDWARDS STREET
FOUR KING EDWARD STREET SITUATED IN NOTTINGHAM WILL BE TRANSFORMED INTO A PLACE FOR ARTISTS TO COME TOGETHER AND GET CREATIVE.
The building used to be an old tram shed hence it’s vast long narrow shape. The design is based on journeys taken to the building and throughout represented in the layout and circulation. A key element to the design is to retain as many of the existing features as possible to then naturally contrast with the new additions. Workshops will be located on the ground floor to allow for easy access for when deliveries arrive to site. A mezzanine level on the first floor will be added designed to provide a closer connection to the building and also increase the amount of floor space. Artists will live and work on the mezzanine which will provide them with an element of privacy away from the public on the ground and first floor. Each artist will have their own pod on the mezzanine which will then be transformed into an individual gallery space once dropped into the first floor using the original existing crane.
